Outfit #150 - Apparently Crazy

A few weeks ago, I restrained myself and did not buy stockings.  Over the weekend, I took advantage of the sales and bought a ... few... pairs.  I contemplated some really crazy options.  I believe today's pair was rather conservative.
Skirt: Gina Tricot (op shop). Top: Country Road (op shop). Jacket: Sportsgirl (from Jeannie). Scarf: David Jones (on loan). Stockings: Leona Edmiston. Boots: Sandler.  Earrings: Pandora (gift).
One member of the Fashion Police saw me and said, "I see we're wearing Crazy Lady Stockings today" - !!!  I tried to tell her they're not crazy, I'm a creative type anyway, but I was told she and I need to go shopping together.  I'm so glad that will never happen.
I also started the day (it was cold!) with a sudden agh! moment, realising I should be finding my gloves and a warm hat.  All I could find was one glove and my baker boy hat.  As it turns out, you need more hair to wear one of those.  I took a classic photo wearing it, but won't share it today. And although my envisioned outfit was the second photo, the reality for nearly the entire day (minus about 2 hours) was the top photo.
My camera doesn't capture the colours so well so you get a close-up of the scarf/jacket/top - although the top is actually much more purple.  Right, now I'm off to find a warm hat and another glove.

Outfit #112 - Buttons Galore

Eight.  Eight large white buttons.  So, not buttons galore in quantity, but definitely in attention-grabbing - large and white and 'out there'.

Skirt: Sunny Girl (op shop).  Singlet (not visible in pics but necessary, trust me!): Ambra.  Shirt/jacket/top thing: Kirx (from Jeannie).  Shoes: Zoe & Zac (from Jeannie).  Earrings: from Mombasa.
I don't normally include a 'rear view' but the buttons on this top kinda call for it.  That, and the fact that I couldn't wear this until I'd sewn one on more securely.
I would never have approached this colour top if left to my own devices.  This was in the pile of clothes Jeannie had ready for me on my last trip to Melbourne.  I thought I would give it a go, and I'm so glad - loving it.  Moreover, the buttons can go all the way up - imagine the variety of outfits!  The only problem with this outfit was that I was cold when it rained.  Which was a lot.
The upper-junior school kids are away on camp for a few days, so I had only middle and senior girls today - no running around the school finding little people.  I figured this was a perfect day to wear these shoes, and I was right!  Note the absence of preemptive Bandaids.
How sweet are these earrings?

Outfit #52 - Mnah Mnah

Outfit details:

Dress: Spicysugar (from Jeannie).  Top: Dotti.  Stockings: Target.  Boots: Sandler.  Earrings: Mombasa (I think).  Scarf: Alta Linea.  Jacket: Dotti.

I kept looking at these earrings and decided today was the day.  They couldn't have a blog debut without these stockings.  This meant that I had 2 animal prints.  I was going to call this 'Animal' but whenever I thought that I thought 'mnah mnah' (Muppets, that is).  So there we are.

I haven't been super cold this winter, but the jacket and scarf were definitely welcome.

Technically, the print on these earrings is Fawn, but they look so similar to the leopard stockings.  It was nice to have other teachers at school notice!

No-one noticed the different hairstyle though (side bun - a bit hard to tell, admittedly).  Personally I was very pleased that I managed to do something different with my hair, so I didn't look like I'd just rolled out of bed.  Go me.

Today's photo:

Yesterday, I thought I might need a little help to get me through the week.  I bought irises.  I love irises, they take me back to when I was about 8.

...Or Not

I confess, I didn't really change today.  In fact, I feel I regressed.  And I can see that it's because my life is a bit murky and undefined at present, a whole lot of unknown and not-black-and-white-ness.

A brief overview of today:  slept in (by a lot - thankfully it's still holidays, kinda).  Breakfast I felt very odd, and it seemed to take forever to make.  As much as I've trained my parents, they still have some different ideas about where things belong, and making breakfast for more than me requires different timings.  Yes, this throws me.  Finished (maybe) a painting, had coffee, did the vacuuming, had lunch, went to the gym, bought more paint.  Taught my Friday afternoon students, discovered my fingerboard is starting to come off yet again.  Had a quick dinner and went to church, as it was a eucharist in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the ordination of women priests.

The only potential changes would have been the painting, and going to the gym straight after lunch.  It's fairly quiet then (good) but there was what looked like a school group arriving (potentially not so good).  And the 20th anniversary was a first, obviously.

Purple and green banners were hanging down the pillars, and there were green lights in the transepts, purple lights at the crossing.

People had been asked to wear green and purple for the event, and for the recent Synod, as these were the campaign colours.  I'd heard a rumour a while back that the ordained women would wear purple shoes - what a great idea!  I only spotted one pair, on our deacon Ann.  I wish I'd had the opportunity to take the photo when she was still robed.

Today's photo:

As I was leaving, walking down Ann St through a very light misty rain, it looked like the Suncorp tower was glowing.  Admittedly, it's a bit hard to tell here...  But this is also the first mildly-successful night shot I've taken on the iPhone.  I do like a rainy city night scene.

Outfit #44 - New Brown Boots

Outfit details:

Dress: Spicysugar (from Jeannie).  Top: Dotti.  Stockings: Target.  Boots: Sandler.  Earrings: ?

I must be part-feline.  The idea of getting my feet wet is enough to change my sartorial plans, so long pants and flat shoes gave way to a short skirt and boots.  I probably would have switched to boots anyway.  These were purchased on Friday and I love them.  Every time I've left the house since buying them, I've been wearing them.  Not only are they new boots, but they're brown - I haven't owned brown footwear since I had to wear brown shoes to school.  It's been a while.  The stockings are also recent additions to my collection.  The day I bought the Nordic Knit print stockings, I resisted buying these.  Ever since, they haven't been available in my size, or were just not there.  Last week though, they were there, in my size - only pair available.  Score!

The lighting right now is fairly terrible.  Not only is it winter, and I'm not at home on a Tuesday while the sun is still up, but I need to replace 3 lightbulbs.  3!  So today, I brought down the desk lamp from the spare room and did a Pixar-style setup, but it still looks rather gloomy.  Fingers crossed for the right size globes available tomorrow.

I didn't realise until I was checking photos, but the trim on this dress matches the grey top.  I suspect it's one of those tones that looks grey with grey and black with black.  I also discovered today that the dress has a zip.  It's only about the 5th time I've worn the dress.  I do like the slightly space aspect to the dress - I get an 'Austin Powers' vibe whenever I wear it.

A bit more boot love, and stocking love - you can't really get the full effect of the stockings but they have bands of colour in blocks up the legs.  If you look closely (really closely) at the lead photo you can just see the next blue block at the hem of the dress.

Today's photo:

Days like today are the reason I stopped taking photos for a while.  The sun wasn't up when I got to the station this morning, and the scratches on the windows prevented a good shot for the evening ride (which had nice light).  The weather was cold and rainy so I hardly left my teaching room, which has a view of buildings and palms - not terribly exciting.  So, for the first time ever, I took my phone with me on tonight's run.  I figured it was time, as I will be running the half-marathon with it, and I run to areas in which I'm not a local.  There have been several occasions when I've wished for a camera when running, not just for the lights but as a reminder of how far I've come.  The Kurilpa Bridge used to be my Long Run end point.  Now, my short run is another couple of kilometres each way.

Outfit #34 - Purple

Outfit details:
Dress: Spicysugar (from Jeannie).  Top: Ambra.  Stockings: Target.  Shoes: Hot Options.  Earrings: David Jones (I think).  Dog: Gracie.  She's mum and dad's dog (they're staying this week), and as they had just left, she was looking longingly from the top of the stairs, waiting for their return.  As soon as more students arrived though, she was busy licking faces and lying on her back for tummy rubs.

I didn't have grade 3s today (due to NAPLAN being on at the same time as their strings lessons), so this super short skirt was not overly impractical.  That said, when combined with the stockings, I felt my legs were being stared at all day.

The 10-yr-old who thinks I have 5 husbands listened really quietly while I recorded her piece (rhythm...rhythm...rhythm...), then said "So, when you send me the recording, could I ask, could you send me a photo of your earrings as well?  We're doing nature shapes in art and I want to draw your earrings.  They're so pretty".  Then the next child also said how pretty my earrings were, then said she loved my stockings (incidentally, she had her best lesson in ages today).

Last week I worked out this outfit - but I didn't have the right shoes.  Well, I had wonderful shoes but I'm not going to wear them to school.  On Friday, I went shopping and found these shoes and stockings.  At first I loved these shoes, but having looked at them in my room all weekend, I'm not so sure.  I haven't bought thick-heeled shoes for a really long time, and these heels lost their appeal somewhat.  They don't necessarily make them more comfortable, and I'm not convinced they're retro-cool enough.  On the plus side, they do fit really well, and they are tall.  I love being tall.

Outfit #10 - Green and Purple

Why green and purple?  Both my necklace and my earrings today have green and purple.  With a green top, of course this meant I was wishing for purple shoes.  That said, it was one of those days - I barely had time for detail shots.  Normally it takes me 45 minutes to get to work (including 15 minutes walk plus a coffee stop).  Today, my train stopped at the station before the city for 40 minutes before I abandoned it.  I left home at 6:25 and got to work at 8:05.  A bit late.

Outfit:
Top: Hot Options. Singlet: Ambra. Pants: Portmans.  Shoes: Pulp.  Necklace and earrings: gifts.

These have turned into my favourite accessories.  The necklace goes with just about everything.  Plus, I can play the violin while wearing it.  That's a big plus.  The earrings also go with most things.

I am still finding it hard to take photos of me wearing my accessories.  They either turn out way too close, or not close enough to be able to see what they actually look like.  Aside from that, I take them during breaks at work...  and hope that no-one sees me taking photos of myself.
